Many hospice providers have received their PEPPER Report or are in the process of receiving the report this week. The new PEPPER Report will enable hospice providers to identify potential risks of improper payments and to improve billing compliance.
The Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER) is a report that compares a hospice’s Medicare billing practices with other hospices in the state, Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) jurisdiction and nation. The report includes hospice statistics for Medicare claims that may reveal risks for improper payments.
The PEPPER Report has been mailed to hospice providers during the last week of August 2012. Many hospice providers are no in receipt of the report to review how they stack up against other providers locally and nationally. See a sample of the report here.
The TMF Health Quality Institute, the CMS contractor, will provide training of how to review and use the PEPPER Report on Thursday, September 13 at 1pm CT. The registration is closed at this time due to the maximum number of registrants. The webinar training session will be recorded and posted on PEPPERresources.org in the Hospice “Training and Resources” section in two weeks post the event. Read the Hospice PEPPER Report User Guide here.
The webinar training objectives are to review the new PEPPER for Hospices. It will include the history and background of PEPPER, a description of the areas at risk for improper Medicare payments, a demonstration of a Hospice PEPPER to review the reports included and a discussion on how the PEPPER can be used.
